Messages from our President, Barbara Crellin and Chairman, Dean Toon.

LRU President Welcome to the 2021-22 Season
I feel very privileged to be appointed President for 2021-22, my third term; due of course to Covid. I must firstly thank John Brindley, President-elect for allowing me to ‘complete a full year’
It is my pleasure to welcome all back to rugby after such a long time. The pandemic has certainly had a huge impact on everyone and my sincere sympathy and condolences go out to all clubs to rugby families who have been directly impacted. The LRU were sad at the passing of Paul Green, past player and officer of the LRU and Hinckley; our thoughts are with his family and we shall support their wish to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Research. An event is in the early stages of planning.
It is good to see that all clubs are back training at all levels and that some clubs have already had games. I am trusting that none of us have lost numbers. Certainly at my home club numbers are good in all areas; I hope you are in the same position.
I am looking forward to visiting as many clubs again, but especially to visiting those clubs whose dates were cancelled due to lockdown. I would also like to attend Presidents Days, Sponsors Days, Old and Past Players Days, Ladies matches, Festivals and hopefully presenting any outstanding accreditations. Thank you to all clubs which have already invited me. Please drop me an email with a couple of dates so that I can arrange to do so. president@leicestershirerugbyunion.co.uk
I hope you all have a successful season but above all enjoy your rugby, whether playing, supporting, coaching or running a rugby club.
Yours in rugby
Barbara Crellin

LRU Chairman welcome to 2021/22 Season
May I take this opportunity to welcome everyone back for the 2021/22 season of rugby union in Leicestershire, and to thank all the volunteers involved in the Rugby Community who have worked tirelessly to keep clubs afloat during the past 18 months and in great shape for the start of this season.
The LRU have also been busy assisting with enquiries and the ever-changing landscape over the last 18 months. We have some changes to the executive committee this season with Kev Whitcombe who has served as Hon-Sec for the last four years, stepping down to persue his many other interests. We thank Kevin for all his hard work over his time with LRU and wish him well in enjoying his pastimes.
Gail Bates has taken over the post of Hon Secretary and our team has been strengthened further by the recent appointments of Pete Shaw (Facilities Chair) and Simon Howard (Diversity & Inclusion Officer). I am confident they will have a positive impact working alongside clubs in their specialist areas. Chris Hayward and Helen Wrighten have also joined the executive committee as Discipline Chair and Volunteer Co-Ordinator respectively.
It was fantastic to visit two clubs last weekend to see full contact Rugby being played and enjoyed by all with the spirit of rugby very evident. We are all looking forward to watching and participating in many more matches and for a full season ahead.
