Leicestershire RFU U18 met Warwickshire RFU U18 in a breath-taking game in the final of the Super Sunday event held on the 6th November 2016 at Broadstreet RFC. After a very tough encounter Leicestershire were crowned the champions with a final score of 17-7, what a great achievement. It has been a number of years since Leicestershire has won this event, with the squad playing and winning all 8 games on their journey to victory, scoring a total of 258 point and only conceding a mere 68.

Kick off at 2.30 saw a thrilling first half, with Leicestershire being awarded a penalty try in the 21st minute for a high tackle on winger Noah Reeve a few meters from the try line. This was converted by Billy Percival, giving Leicestershire a lead of 7-0.

This spurred Leicestershire on and a second penalty in front of the posts was awarded on the 25th minute. Scrum-half, Billy Percival took the penalty kick giving Leicestershire a 10-0 lead.

Within a matter of minutes Warwickshire came back fighting and were awarded a try in the 29 minute which was converted, leaving the game at 10-7 to Leicestershire at half time.

In the 2nd half Leicestershire were awarded a couple of penalties, however Fly-half Fergus Dobson narrowly missed the first penalty in the 15th minute followed by another near miss by Noah Reeve of Leicestershire in the 24th minute. Consistent hard work, determination and pure grit saw replacement scrum-half Ross Burgoine score a try in the 31st minute which was converted by Fergus Dobson leaving the final score at 17-7 in favour of Leicestershire.

Credit goes to both teams for an excellent display of high level rugby and Leicestershire hope to see a number of players progress into the Midlands squad and hopefully England. Warwickshire RFU U18 played a great game and thanks goes to them for playing fairly and in the true spirit of rugby. Leicestershire Rugby Union wish all the players involved in the Super Sunday games the best of luck in their future rugby endeavours and may this opportunity provide a stepping stone within their development and career path.
