U16’s boys win against Staffs away

Another win, this time away against Staffordshire at Lichfield.  Final score was 19 – 17 to Leicestershire.

The matchday squad was again made up of players from across the County – Syston, Market Harborough, Vipers, Loughborough, Hinckley, Lutterworth, Ashby and Oadby Wyggs.

Staffordshire were a very good side.  The forwards in particular put the team under a lot of pressure in the loose and they had a pair of very quick wingers.  The Leicestershire boys struggled to cope with their speed at the breakdown, and their support running was excellent.  This paid off for them when they took the lead to go 5 – 0 up.

Leics went ahead with a converted try before Staffs scored again to end the half 12 – 7 ahead.  In the second half, Leics pulled one back to make it 12 – 12 before Staffs went ahead again at 17 – 12.  So it was pretty much nip and tuck all the way.  In the last few minutes, Leics charged down an attempted clearance before chipping ahead and scoring under the posts.  With the conversion it was 17 – 19.

Staffs pressed hard for a score from the restart but the Leics defence kept them at bay.

A good win! Brian Hesford, LRU President came to watch the game, and presented ties to the players making their debuts.

Next game is on the 26th at Melton v NLD.  2:00pm kick off, all supporters welcome.
