The Active People Survey has been running for 10 years and Rugby Union celebrated the end of the year with a great set of results with a continuing upwards trend in both weekly and monthly participation data. A further analysis of the seven main team sports (Rugby Union, Rugby League, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Basketball and Netball) shows that only Rugby Union and Netball are seeing upwards movement over both the current 4 year cycle and in the 10 years that the Active People Survey has been running – the other five sports are in decline. This is a fantastic achievement in what is probably the most challenging of all the team sports to get matches played. Netball have seen some massive increases so the RFU are keen to work with them to understand more about their sport and how they have gained in numbers.
Rugby Union Participation is on the up!
