Leicestershire Rugby Union were delighted to see Brian Hesford receive an award at Twickenham on Saturday 24th August in recognition for his hard work and volunteering across the grassroot game in Leicestershire.

County President for 2016-17 and Melton Mowbray RFC’s only County President in its history, Brian, a Yorkshireman who played in Wales and came to Leicestershire in 1979, played at Melton and for Leicester Thursday. His involvement with the CB began with coaching and as team manager of the Colts, he became Chair of Club Leicestershire and delivered RFU Coaching Courses. A long time supporter of ladies rugby,  he joined the Discipline Panel and became Secretary, a position he held with quiet efficiency for in excess of a decade until stepping down at the end of last season. Brian is a county stalwart!

Brian, accompanied by his wife Isobel, who was also celebrating her 70th birthday, was given a tour of the ground before watching the England v Ireland match. They also enjoyed lunch and an overnight stay with evening dinner at the Lensbury Hotel.

Brian was joined by Leicestershire President Barbara Crellin and Leicestershire RFU Councillor, Peter Howard.

A great weekend for a great rugby volunteer. Congratulations Brian – well deserved!
