“I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the Clubs in the Leicestershire Constituent Body for allowing the players to be honoured in representing our County.
This has been my sixth year as Director Of Rugby and it has been a long road but a very enlightening and richly rewarding one to see the evolution of players and the success they have all achieved however great or small that may have been.
This is without hesitation our best season with the men’s & ladies county senior teams, each reaching their respective finals. Playing on Sunday 28th May with live streaming on the RFU website (ladies TBC). Or why not come down and support us at the home of rugby offer enclosed.County Finalists 241 Offer Form 2017 – Leicestershire (002)
The U17-18’s have managed to see 4 players represent ‘England Counties’ against Ireland, and win the Midland’s U18’s championship.
U 20’s will be re-emerging with ambitions of those players who are no longer eligible for the U18’s playing and gaining further honours, even maybe playing at Twickenham should we gain the success. That I am sure they can achieve with the support of the clubs releasing then under the stewardship of Michael Holford, Head Coach. Trials to be arranged.
U15’s – U16’s, and the Player Pathway has also seen more players selected for the Tigers development programme than ever before (19). We have this year utilised a trial process that saw 3 Players come from the wilderness to prominence and selection.
We have stronger links with the Tigers to ensure released players will not be lost from the game and we encourage them that county representative rugby is still a great level, plus playing at clubs is an enjoyable fun experience where you make friends for life.
The girls section has also seen great success with Amy Whittaker (Lutterworth RFC), selected for the English Deaf team. This is dependent on her raising the funds to travel to the Australia (£1500-just giving page). We have also seen 13 players selected for the Midlands U18’s and U15’s girls which is brilliant.
Once again thank you for the support, we are all part of the Leicestershire Rugby Union, we cannot get this success without the hard work and endeavour of all the coaches managers and volunteers at the Clubs that support us.
Have a great summer, we look forward to an exciting 2017-18 season with more success.”
