Did you know that Leicestershire & Rutland has it’s own Masonic Rugby Club? The Light Blues are based at Vipers RFC and are the current holders of the Masonic Challenge Cup which is played across the UK.
The Light Blues have recently formed a new Freemasons Lodge “The Union of Rugby Lodge” that will meet at Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester four times per year.
Whether you are a Freemason who loves Rugby, or a rugby enthusiast curious to know more about Freemasonry – Freemasonry has changed dramatically over the last 50 years becoming ever more open and accessible to men from all walks of life.
Rugby Union has significant parallels with the core values of Freemasonry – in particular respect, integrity, friendship, and of course, charity. Thus it’s hardly surprising that many rugby players find their way into Freemasonry.
New lodges, such as The Union of Rugby Lodge No.9989, are a continuing part of that process. Whilst staying true to the core aim of Freemasonry, empowering its members to be the best they can be, both for themselves and for society around them, we have developed a new and exciting approach to ensure that our members can enjoy their Freemasonry (and their Rugby), without compromising family or professional obligations.
If you would like to be part of this bright new future, to have fun, to make new friendships and to do something really worthwhile with your spare time, please see below.
The new lodge will be launched in early 2020, it has already attracted over 70 new members, all with interests in rugby and Freemasonry, many of whom are associated with local rugby clubs across the county.

About Freemasonry
In an increasingly divisive world, many people are looking for unity and purpose to help guide their way. Compassion and respect are more important now than ever before.
Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, open to those of all backgrounds. Its roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles.
The organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be, both for themselves and for society around them. It does this by providing a structure of support to help them make positive contributions to
their local communities, whether it be through fundraising events or volunteer work.
In an uncertain world, the principles of Freemasonry: integrity, friendship, respect, and charity ring as true today as they ever have before.

The Light Blues have recently raised £800 for a defibrilator to be installed at Vipers.

The club are always looking for new players. For further information, please visit their page here
