Lancashire 52 Leicestershire 14

Leicestershire’s first Bill Beaumont County Championship division one fixture at the historic manorial Firwood Waterloo RFC was a difficult start after being promoted to the top division.

The game started well but Lancashire scored the first try from a quickly taken penalty. Leicestershire continued to play in the Lancashire 22 on a number of occasions but then Lancashire play with pace from turn overs and with two yellow cards in the first half the score at half time was 33-0.

In the second half Leicestershire began to find their feet at this level, with a number of scoring opportunities before a break from Luke Veebel from Leicester Lions which was finished of by Euan Kelly of Hinckley. Lancashire hit back with try’s of their own. Leicestershire’s scrum was dominant in the second half creating a few more scoring opportunities. Leicestershire had the final word with a try from debutant Issac Norton of the RAF, from a well worked line-out move. Both Leicestershire try’s were converted by Syston’s Ian Smith.
