We are delighted to announce the appointment of Caroline Martin to the role of Women & Girls Lead for Leicestershire and Rutland.
Here are a few words from Caroline:
” I started playing rugby while at university in North Yorkshire, and continued playing there as a student. When I moved back to Leicestershire, I couldn’t find a women’s rugby club to join, so I ended up stepping away from the game for a while. That was until my son started playing at Oadby Wyggs, and I received a message inviting local women to try touch rugby at the club—complete with a Pizza and Prosecco night. Naturally, I was in!
From there, I ended up playing for the Oadby Wyggs Women’s team. Motivated by my experience and passion for the game, I took on the challenge of developing the Girls’ section. Starting with just four girls, the section now has over 45 players across various age groups.
I’m excited to work with clubs across Leicester and Leicestershire to strengthen the relationships between the women’s and girls’ section/games. My goal is to continue fostering growth and development, ensuring that more girls and women have access to rugby and a supportive community where they can thrive”
Caroline will no doubt be in touch with clubs over the coming months and can be contacted via email at wg-lead@leicestershirerugbyunion.co.uk
